I first heard of Jesus when I was six. At that time, the "Jesus movement" was in full swing, complete with hippies, VW microbuses, and peace signs adorning everything imaginable.

At about age eight, I received a copy of "Good News for Modern Man," a paperback, plain-English translation of the King James Bible.

What a blessing that was, since the lowest of us could now read the Bible and understand it. And read it I did. I enjoyed the stories of how Jesus loved the children and rebuked the awful Pharisees (whoever they were).

I relished in His unwavering compassion and marveled at His healing power.

I started going with a neighbor kid to a huge Lutheran church about a block away from our street. Since both of us were only eight, we told our parents we were going outside to play, but we were sneaking into the church on Sundays and attending Sunday school after listening to the sermons.

The best part was the free tea and cookies, we thought. I remember the tea being hot enough to burn my tongue--ouch!

Our parents were unaware of what we were doing. Mine were angry at God for taking my birth mother at an early age. His were raging alcoholics. But we stuck with it.

By the time I was twelve, I had given my life to Christ. Its been an amazing journey and struggle ever since.

Question is, will you join me?

Will you give up your life for Christ and embark on a journey of discovering who God is, and most importantly, secure the promise of spending eternity with the One who created you?
